Time to change the Indian Copyright Act?

Yesterday, i read with interest that the Delhi Public Library’s braille section is housed at the BRA(Blind Relief Association) , and also with concern, that when blind schools copy books into braille, they risk violating the Indian Copyright Act.

In the US Copyright Act, it is permissible to make copies in braille and other suitable formats (including audio) so long as it is for the exclusive use of the blind.

Isn’t it time we lobbied for the same change in our Act too? With one third of the world’s blind population, we need that amendment if anyone does..
